How To Get Started With Amazon FBA And Send Your First Box In!

How To get started on amazon fba

If you sell any physical products online then you may have heard of Amazon FBA. Basically like eBay it’s a platform for you to sell your goods, either as resellers, wholesale or even your own private label products.

It can be a very lucrative platform if you want it to be. Or, it can be a very nice side income stream as many people use it for. I know people who make a steady £200 a month using this, I also know people who are full time making £7000 a month.

I am somewhere in between 😉

For those who know me, or if you’ve ever visited the blog or follow me on Instagram you will know that one of my business side hustles is to resell goods I pick up for a lower cost elsewhere.

FBA means Fulfilment By Amazon, this basically means they take care of everything for you post sale. So, after its sold they will pick the item, pack it and dispatch it for you – all in Amazon packaging and also with the benefits that Prime members get.

Below is flow of how it works.

what is amazon fba

Throughout this blog post I aim to show you how to get started with Amazon FBA too and I will also provide a step by step guide on how to send your first box of goods in.

In this blog post we will cover:

  • What are the benefits of Amazon FBA?
  • How much does it cost?
  • How do I know if something will sell?
  • How to send your first box in?
  • Conclusion & Wrap Up

What Are The Benefits of Amazon FBA?

For many people the obvious perk of selling products through Amazon FBA is the fact that you don’t have to store products in your own home, also unlike eBay you don’t have to spend as much time listing your product. Often products on Amazon require no pictures at all as you essentially piggy back other listings.

Other perks include Amazon’s discounted shipping rates, if you do FBA you are available to all the Prime users on the platform. They get discounted shipping so you can capitalise on this too by selling your products to them.

So you can source your stock – however you want weather it be from charity shops, car boots or wholesale and then send it in to Amazon for them to sell it and take care of the rest.

How Much Does Amazon FBA Cost?

Obviously for all their efforts, the packing, shipping and storage they take a fee. This section will outline the costs to see if its for you or not.

For starters a pro account will set you back £30 a month. There is one other option, you can choose a basic option which rather than charge a monthly fee they charge a £1 per sale. This is in addition to the FBA fees per sale.

The FBA fees are broken down per category, weight and size of an item.

Here are two examples of the fees after a sale has been made:

(Both of these are purely random things I have been scanning recently, I am not suggesting you get these, although the board game is a nice seller!)

The first one here is a PlayStation game.

FBA fees

So, you can see if I sold this for £9.99 I would make a profit of £5.60 if I bought it for £1.00.

The total Amazon fee is £3.34. So that is about a 33%.

The second one here is a board game.

amazon fba fees

So here if I had sold this for £59.99 I would make £47.73 profit after paying £1.00 for it.

The Amazon fees would be £10.83. This works out at 18% of the sale price.

Note: On both they include a shipping to Amazon fee. This will be explained later.

So you can see that different categories and products have different fees. Some of you may think these fees are high but I will say this.

  • You are tapping into Amazon’s MILLIONS of customers.
  • They store all your stock for you.
  • They pack and ship your sales for you. No trips to the post office for you.
  • They deal with any returns.

For me, its a fair price considering all you need to do after you have sourced your products is put them in a box and send them in.

That is not all though. On top of the storage fees there are Long Term Storage fees. These are settled by the size of storage you are taking up x the length of time its been there.

I am not going to go into too much detail on this but be aware if your products stay in the warehouses for over 1 year will get billed for this. Hopefully the next section of the guide will help you avoid this fee.

How Do I Know My Products Will Sell?

Obviously for Amazon FBA to be successful for you have to make sure your products sell! This section will show you you can make sure you pick stuff that is going to sell and not fall into the trap like many people do (myself included ) make.

When I first started I would send virtually anything in! I am way more selective now.

So – I am assuming you have an account setup. If not head over to Amazon FBA and get setup when you are ready.

Next up you’ll need some form of app to scan your products. With books, media, toys and other electrical goods if they are boxed you can simply scan the bar code and this will give you a whole host of information.

There are a few apps you can use for this, but for the purpose of this guide and as it is intended for new starters we shall use the Amazon Seller App. This is a free download – go and grab it once you have setup your account.

Amazon seller app

So once you are all set up you can start to source products. Open up your Amazon Seller app and scan some bar codes, if you have never done this before you’ll probably go around your house first scanning everything to see if you can send it in to sell!

I can’t emphasise this enough. Go and scan some bar codes to get a feel for the app. You need to click the camera icon in the top right corner to open up the scanner. (You also need a scanner compatible phone, most are these days)

Certain categories like clothing, jewellery and many others need approval before you can sell on them. Stick with the ones that are open to everyone to begin with.

If you want to sell clothes, you may like my post on How I Sell Trainers on eBay.

But just because it has value does not mean it will sell. Each category has a rank of all the products within that category. This changes all the time – every time a product is purchased the rank will change.

I am not an expert in Amazon rank but I have a few rules I follow. I tend to aim for the top 1% of any given category. Let me explain that a minute – books for example at the time of writing this has 59,531,361 titles in the category. I usually won’t buy a book over 600,000 rank, this is roughly 1%….

But – even with sticking with this method you are not full proof. Obviously the lower the rank the better chance you have of something selling.

If you want to go one step further you should analyse the product on other websites which will give you far more sales data.

For this I use a website called CamelCamelCamel.

An alternative to this site is a site called Keepa – both do the same thing.

For this example and tutorial i will use Camel.

Lets use the two examples above to show you the data of sales.

Lego Lord of the Rings on the PlayStation 3

Here is the 3 month data screenshot.

lord of the rings ps3 3 month data

If you have never seen one of these shots of the data before I can tell you this is a very good sales chart. It shows that the product is still selling very well.

Lets narrow down even further and go with the 1 month data chart.

lord of the rings ps3 1 month data

Here we can see a bit clearer. Essentially what you are looking for is a spike in sales rank. Look at the chart, the figure on the left is sales rank, so this game has a rank which jumps between 5000 and 1000 roughly. Each “jump” or spike in rank is a sale. So you could say from looking at this chart that this game sells about 13 copies a month. It is difficult to put an exact number on it but that is the major spikes I see roughly.

Like I say, I am not an expert but this is how I follow them and I know it is there or thereabouts.

You will see the difference in the next chart.

Harry Potter Scene It Board Game

Here is the 3 month data screenshot.

harry potter 3 month data

This is a much easier chart to read. You can see exactly that is has sold 7 copies of the game. Some may say only 6 but I think on July 10th plot and just after there are 2 sales there.

So – would you send this in?

Of course you would. Its selling 6 copies every 3 months. So, even if your copy sits in the warehouse for a month or two if it is priced correctly then you know it will sell eventually.

Here is the 1 month chart.

harry potter 1 month data

As expected really – the 1 month chart shows a couple of sales. But, if you have picked this up for cheap and you are going to sell it for £50 are you willing to let it wait for a while until it sells?

Yes, you will. You have done your work, your work was to put it in a box and send it in. Just wait now until it sells.

In this particular example I would expect this rank to go even lower (more frequent sales) as Christmas approaches.

I could write a whole book on sales rank alone and what to sell and what not to sell but I can’t go into it here in too much detail. This is meant to be an entry level blog post (or mini course) and this at least will give you an insight into sales rank.

In a nutshell if you are unsure of sales rank, then check it on the website I have suggested above.

Plenty of people I know use different apps and products than the two I have mentioned above. If you prefer a different setup please mention it in the comments below.

How To Send Your First Box In To Amazon FBA?

So hopefully by now you have scanned a few products and you are familiar with sales rank a little and now you want to get a box sent in! Well, this section will show you exactly how to do it.

After you have logged in to your Amazon seller account open your inventory.

Click on manage inventory.

Note: The products used in this demonstration are not guaranteed to sell quickly or at all. I have used my best knowledge to ensure they will sell for me for profit but there are no guarantees. Do not copy these products thinking just because I am selling them that they must sell. Do your own research prior to sending anything in.

how to get your first box into amazon fba

Then click on “Add a Product”

Here is where you can enter the bar code number of your product. If you are going to make a serious go of this you will want to get yourself a USB bar code scanner to speed things up. Here is a link to the one I use….

Esky 2.4G Wireless Handheld Barcode Scanner

add products to amazon fba

Once you have entered the bar code click on the “Sell Yours” button.

sell your products on fba with amazon

Here you can enter the price and condition. This product is new and sealed so I can list it so.

Warning: Do not list items above their current condition. If something is used do not list it as new. Sounds obvious but people still do it. Especially books, even if you have purchased a book from a shop I personally would still not list it as new.

Amazon has a full page document on how to list your items as per their condition. You can read it here.

If you are unfamiliar with the condition guidelines then I highly recommend you give it a read.

setting your condition for amazon fba

After you have entered your condition and price you can click on “Advanced View” for more options to add to your listing. These are not compulsory, but it will allow you to add more information such as your own notes should you want to.

enable amazon to list and sell for you

Make sure the bottom button as pictured here is enable. You want Amazon to dispatch and provide customer service for your items.

Then click “Save and Finish”.

Save and finish for fba listings

On this next page it will ask you if you want to convert to Fulfilled by Amazon. This is a little confusing as it thinks you are ready to send them in here. You are not ready yet as you want to list multiple products for one box to send in.

So just click “Back” here.

back to inventory on fba

This will take you back to your inventory. Here is where you can simply rinse and repeat the steps above. Do this for all the items you want to send in. This will load up your inventory so you can then move on to the next step.

Don’t worry, nothing is for sale yet.

So – repeat the steps above and do this until all your products are listed in your inventory.

Then when you are ready “select” all the products in your inventory using the tick box on the left hand side of your dashboard.

listing in your inventory amazon FBA

Then click the drop down menu with your selected products.

manage your fba inventory

Next click on “Send/Replenish inventory”

send and replenish inventory

Make sure here the default settings are selected then click on “Continue to shipping plan”

fba box 13

Next is where you enter the quantity of each product you are sending in. Enter 1 into the box shown below.

fba prep

Then click continue.

fba continue

The next section is where you prepare and label your products ready for shipment. You have the choice here of having Amazon do it or you can do it yourself. I have always done it myself but i also know people you choose Amazon to do it for them. For Amazon to so it they charge £0.15 per item. For the purpose of this tutorial I will select “seller” (you) to do it.

Once you have selected “Seller” you can select “Apply to all”

prep labelling for fba

Now you can print your labels by selecting the “Print labels for this page” button.

I use a 27-up sheet. You can buy these from Amazon here.

print and prepare labels for amazon fba box

The video below shows the next few steps in the process. Essentially just labelling your stock.

After you have labelled your products pack them into your box and if necessary use filler paper to pack it out a bit like I have shown here in my box below.

fba box prep

Prepare box for shipment in to amazon fba

Once you have all your products securely in your box, tape it up and in the video below I will show you the next step which is the box labels.

When you have done the box labels and taped them to your box click on “Complete Shipment”

So – after this step you are all done to send it in.

box ready for shipment to fba via ups

I always use a UPS access point. Which means you can drop it off at any of these and UPS will pick it up and deliver it for you. You do not have to pay anything here – the £5.04 will be deducted from your Amazon account.

Payroll is every two weeks so after your first box hits the warehouse and some products start to sell you will more than cover this cost.

ups access point

I have not arranged for boxes to be collected from my house but I know you can do this too for no extra cost. You have to arrange this on the UPS.com website.

I am sorry but I cannot advise on this as I have not done it but I am sure its quote straight forward.

Conclusion and Wrap Up

I hope this tutorial will inspire you to get your first box in. Amazon can be a very rewarding place if you are willing to put the work in.

Whether its just a nice part time boost income stream or a full blown full time income you can achieve it with Amazon FBA.

The real players in the game all started off like this. That first box, learning how to do it. This is by no means the perfect process, the perfect way to do it but it works and its a simple process if you follow the steps.

It gets easier – this may seem like a bit of a headache at first but once you do it you will be knocking out boxes and sending them in now time.

There are many tools of the game which you can use which I will write about in future posts. These can help speed up the process.

For now though its time to master the basics.

I really hope you get on board with this. Trust me – that first sale will put a smile on your face.

If you have any questions or comments I’d love to hear from you. Drop them in the comments box below.

How To Sell Trainers & Shoes For Big Money On eBay!

selling shoes on ebay

Ever since my reselling journey started I have always loved flipping shoes. They can be a very nice addition to that 60-day selling total on eBay! Throughout this post I will try to outline some of the things to look for, I will also cover the following:

  • What brands to look for (including my top 3 right now)
  • What markings and numbers can help you on the shoe
  • What conditions to avoid and look for
  • How to package and ship
  • How to spot fakes!
  • Wrap up and time for you to get started

Hopefully this guide can help you if you are out sourcing or maybe just having a clear out of your own. Either way don’t dismiss “old and tatty” shoes or trainers. Chances are if they are a quality brand then they will clean up well and sell for a nice profit.

I always keep an eye out but there are some brands that I especially like to buy. Lets dive in to this post and hopefully you can take something from it and start to sell some shoes of your own!

A quick couple of shout outs before we begin. I would like to thank the UK Reselling Group on Facebook, a massive wealth of knowledge here and without this group I would not be selling half of the things I sell today. Another shout out is to a chap who goes by the name of Joe Pennies – you can check out his YouTube channel here. I highly recommend subscribing in if reselling is your thing. He has been a huge influence especially in the world of trainers!

What Brands of Trainers / Shoes To Look For?

Most charity shops and car boot sales will have an abundance of crap shoe brands that are not worth picking up. But more often than not they will have brands that are worth a second look.

Here are my personal favourite brands that I always look out for and have previously sold.

  • Converse
  • Nike
  • Adidas
  • Loake
  • Asics
  • Vans
  • Ugg

Probably nothing really surprising on that list really is there? But most of these are actually quite common depending on where you source. I hardly source anywhere outside of my main village and I pick up at least 4 or 5 pairs from this list of brands each month. Not much I know but later I will show you one pair from this brand that sold for £120 – used!

You can obviously do a completed listing search on eBay and you will get a load more ideas of brands that sell well.

Remember to select the following filters if you are doing a completed listings search:

  1. Condition: Used
  2. Buying Format: Buy It Now (Higher prices)
  3. Price Range: Over £20
  4. Show Only: Sold

This will give you plenty of results. Change the search term from “trainers” to “shoes, women’s shoes, men’s shoes,” and see what different results it throws up. Then add the filters I have suggested above.

Out of the brand list above my personal top 3 are Adidas, Nike and Converse. I have had loads of pairs of these 3 brands and they ALL sell well all year round.

My biggest trainer sale to date was a pair of Hadaway Foamposite Nike Basketball boots. They were in amazing condition and I paid £10 for them. There were no listings on eBay at the time but I knew from researching on other sites that these were rare. About 3 weeks after listings I made the sale of £120 and the buyer paid straight away and was very happy with his purchase. Not a bad return at all….

Hardaway Foamposites Nike

The great thing about Nike and Adidas is that they usually have an ID number under the tongue or inside the shoe. You can simply type “Brand + ID number” into Google and you will find the exact design and name of the shoe. This helps when listing and researching.

People will often pay a premium for “dead” stock (designs that are no longer made) – again, this is a reason I like these brands in particular as they have collectors that want these designs.

Below are two Adidas sales from dead stock designs.

The green Gazelles went for around £40 and the Roms sold for £71 (best offer price)

green adidas gazelles

dead stock adidas roms

These were both under a fiver each so just these 3 sales alone brought me in over £200 for under £20 investment.

What Markings And Numbers Can Help You?

As I mentioned above, the top trainer brands will have ID numbers inside the shoe. Often under the tongue on the label.

Nike for example have a design ID number on the label of the shoe. Below is an example.

So if I was to type into Google “NIKE 651545-017” you would get the results on the shoe.

(5 Points to anyone who can tell me the name of the shoe above then….. using the number – let me know in the comments section!!)

This will give you the name of the shoe which is again useful for pricing and listing yours.

Other brands such as Adidas also have a similar number system.

Some shoes the markings are on the inside. More formal shoes such as Loake for example have the makings inside on the sides. This is usually where the size is located too as is the style of shoe.

These McQueen Loakes I sold had the name inside as with the size and width which was identified with a letter.

What Conditions To Avoid And Look For?

Condition is really important when it comes to selling used shoes on eBay. Dirt does not matter – that can be cleaned but any holes or tears in the canvas etc should be avoided all together. You want to sell a wearable shoe that your customers can appreciate so make sure they are in good condition.

As I mentioned don’t be put off if they are not clean. I have picked up some really bad looking pairs of shoes and especially football boots over the last few months but with a bit of elbow crease and some Cif they come up great!

how to clean trainers

WARNING: DO NOT CLEAN THE CANVAS OR COLOURED SECTIONS OF THE SHOES WITH CIF. IT WILL STRIP THE COLOUR. ONLY USE IT FOR THE RUBBER RIMS. (Side of sole)

(When using Cif take it easy on your hands it can burn a bit – use gloves if you’ve got them….)

Some pairs, like Converse etc also do really well after a low temp wash in the washing machine.

These converse below were in a really bad state (dirt) when I bought them. They were only on sale for a £1. But after a few minutes with a cloth and some Cif the rubber rims on these came up like new!

converse all stars sold

Other than that, good old soapy water and a cloth will do the trick with most.

How To Package And Ship

People have their own preferences with this but I will tell you how I pack my used sold trainers. (New usually have a box so we wont go into that).

All I do is wrap the shoes in bubble wrap then put them into a poly mailer.

Do yourself a favour and invest in a bundle of 12 x 16 poly mailers from eBay and pop them into your packaging supplies. You will use them. You can grab a pack of 20 or so for under a fiver usually.

I like to keep my packaging simple but effective. You may remember I also recommended these poly mailers in the How To Sell Ties For Profit post.

How To Spot Fakes

Its becoming increasingly harder now to spot fakes as the “fake market” is getting so damn good at the copies. I recently won a pair of Adidas Yeezy Boost 350’s at a local auction near me. I thought i had hit the jackpot as the I won the lot for £22. These retail for hundreds and there were pairs on eBay going for around the £450 mark.

They were brand new in a box with tags and everything. They had the Adidas logo and everything looked 100% genuine.

adidas yeezy boost 350 fake

But something about them seemed too good to be true, and I was unfortunately right. The letters SPLY-350 were the wrong way around and should mirror the other way. So – lesson learned.

I always say act with caution. Most of the time you will be ok but every now and again you may get caught out.

There are plenty of YouTube videos explaining how to spot fakes etc but be warned it is becoming increasingly more difficult to spot them!

This is why I tend to stick with a handful of brands that I am familiar with. As I get more confident I will take a few more risks on some other brands.

Often though it tends to come down to a few things like the stitching seems lower quality, the label is not present with the ID number or maybe the colour doesn’t seem right.

The trouble is in order to check you need a pair of the real deal shoes to compare, you won’t have this luxury of course. You just have to go with your gut instinct and as you become more familiar with them over time you will have an eye for the fakes.

Now Its Over To You!

So there we have it, this is my blog post guide about selling used trainers and shoes on eBay. The 3 main things to take away from this is quality, research and margins.

Essentially the same 3 points you should make when buying anything to sell for profit.

Quality: Don’t buy trainers or shoes if they are falling apart, goes without saying really but the last thing you want is unhappy customers. The odd scuff here and there is ok and as a rule of thumb if the tread on the soles is ok then you should be good to go. Dirt can always be cleaned remember no matter bad it looks.

Research: If you are in doubt as to whether they will sell or not or whether its even worth your time check the completed listings on eBay. Use as much information as you have like the colour, ID numbers, brands, sizes etc when doing your search. Within a few seconds you will be able to see if they are worth your while or not. Then once you have sold a few brands you will start to pick up pairs without even looking on eBay.

Margins: Its no good paying £10 for a pair only to sell them on for £15 with free postage, this is not worth your time in my view. I aim for at least £10 profit per pair and this is my absolute minimum. Sometimes it may creep lower if its a slow seller so I have to lower the price but usually I get much higher returns. A common return for me is around £15 – £30 profit I would say on average. Again, you can use the completed listings search function on eBay to check your potential profits here.

For those of you unfamiliar with how to do a completed listings search on eBay here is a screen grab of the settings you will need to use. (From the mobile app).

Here I have entered the search term “black converse hi tops”.

Make £1000 Risk Free This Month With Matched Betting

my oddsmonkey matched betting account

Matched betting is nothing new really, broken down its simply a way of moving money from one platform to another.

The best part is you get to keep the money and use it as you wish.

It is completely legal, completely tax free and completely safe.

You will need to know some basics of how it all works though. Once you get your head around it, it is straight forward.

I have personally done this and I can confirm 100% that the method works and I got paid pure profit of close to £1000 with no problems at all.

So, What Exactly Is Matched Betting?

Some people like to think of matched betting as a form of gambling, I guess is sort of is but it’s entirely risk free. So, think of it as gambling, but without the gamble part.

Matched betting (also known as back or lay bet matching, or double betting) is a betting technique used by individuals to profit from the free bets and incentives offered by bookmakers It is generally considered risk-free as it is based on the application of a mathematical equation rather than chance Wikipedia

You are using the bonus offers that bookmakers like to give as an incentive to new customers. If you have ever placed a bet online before then I am sure you would have seen these offers.

If you are completely new to sports betting then you most likely would have not. (But this is nothing to worry about and in actual fact means you can take advantage of more of the new sign up offers!)

Bookies these days are desperate to get new customers and there is a lot of competition for you.

So, let me try and break it down as a simple example.

Let’s say Bookmaker1 has an offer for new customers where when you sign up with your first deposit of £10 you get £30 in free bets.

So, you deposit £10 (usually a minimum) and sure enough they credit you with £30.

Unfortunately, you can’t just withdraw the free £30, it has to be used as free bets.

They will often have restrictions on the type of bets you can make with them.

But what if I said you can bet the £30 in free bets which guarantees you recoup most of it as pure profit? Remember, this is FREE money.

Interested? Good, I shall continue.

Let’s continue with the above offer as an exact example.

You first have the bet your £10 (that you deposited to open the account) but you also have to place a bet called a “lay” bet on the same match using an exchange. (Don’t worry, I will give details of a site which explains all these terms later on)

This effectively cancels out the bet. So, either if you win on the bookie you lose on the exchange or if you lose on the bookie you win on the exchange.

After the first transaction you are still sat at £10 as one would have cancelled the other out effectively.

Now you are eligible to use the free £30 bets and you haven’t lost anything yet.

You simply do the same. You place a bet with the bookie for your £30 and lay the same bet with the exchange. This way whatever the outcome you are going to get about 85% of your £30 back as FREE CASH.

The reason it is only 85% is taking in to account that the odds don’t always exactly match and the exchange takes up to 5% commission for each bet. Only the exchanges take commission not the bookies.

What Are The Exchanges?

The betting exchanges are effectively a platform where you can become the bookmaker. Again, nothing to worry about and ANYONE can do this.

The two most popular exchanges right now are Betfair and Smarkets. You will need an account with at least one of these, I recommend getting set up with both.

Smarkets offer a lower commission at 2% and Betfair use 5%.

The reason I say get both is sometimes the odds match on one but not the other.

Do I Need To Do My Own Calculations To Work This Out?

I must admit having just reread my explanation it does sound a little confusing, especially if you have never placed a bet before. Please bear with it.

Going back a few years you would have needed to calculate all your own matched bets. Whilst it is straight forward you no longer even need to calculate your own bets.

There are many programs and platforms on the internet now that will do this for you.

But, hands down the best platform for matched betting is a website called OddsMonkey

They have on-site calculators that DO ALL THE HARD WORK FOR YOU.

They even go one better and show you the EXACT BETS to place.

The structure of the website is amazing, they have video tutorials on every bet to get you started. The first matched bet you will do will earn you about £16 in about 10 minutes “work”.

What Do I Need To Do Next?

I totally understand if you are a tad sceptical, I was at first. We are taught that if it sounds too good to be true it must be right?

Not the case with this. I can assure you that this is genuine and many thousands of people are doing this. You can trust me.

Like I say with all the tutorials and posts on the site either I personally do them still or I have done them in the past, or at the very least I know some one that is doing it.

With this I personally am doing it.

Here is a snapshot of my own account.

my oddsmonkey matched betting account

I HIGHLY recommend heading over and setting up an account with them. It costs £15 a month but you will make that back on your first bet.

You will obviously need some investment on your own part to get going. This is all explained in detail on the site.

You will see from the picture above that I have only just scratched the surface with this method and there are tons still to go through on the site.

I personally have made close to £1000 using matched betting and after doing one or two bets I found it very straight forward and you will too.

There are people in the OddsMonkey community earning £2000 a month doing this. Some people have even hit insane jackpot offers buts that’s another story.

Please watch this short video from OddsMonkey where they explain in a bit more detail.

Even after the new sign up offers have been used the bookies will keep on sending you offers. You just have to play them correctly using the exchange so you can’t lose. One way or another your money will be safe and you will profit either via the bookie or the exchange. Its win-win!

I will let you decide but please if you want a second income (or third or forth!) then this is really worth checking out.

How To Make A £100 A Month In 1 Hour Selling Ties On Ebay

How To Make £100 A Month Selling Ties On eBay!

If you are not selling ties on eBay then I hope after reading this post you will start to!

Ties are a very good way of making an easy £50 – £200 per month. Some sellers will do a lot more, others won’t. I average somewhere in the middle and I am not a big time tie expert or big time tie trader. You may be thinking big deal, but if you are out and about and do a bit of reselling anyway then this is really a no brainer.

What I will show you in this post is:

  • What ties to sell
  • How much to sell them for
  • Where you can get them MEGA CHEAP
  • How to take good pictures of your ties
  • How to pack and ship your ties

Now not every tie is worth selling. In fact you could say that most are not at all worth reselling on eBay.

In this post though I will show you how to find the good ones and the ones to keep your eye out for.

If you do a ‘Completed Listings Search’ on eBay for the ties that have sold you will see that there is a HUGE market for it. People are selling thousands and people are buying thousands.

I narrowed the search to over £20 but lower than £100 – these are SOLD ties.

Here are the results.

How to sell ties on ebay

Here I lowered the bottom price to £10 – again these are SOLD ties only.

Ties On eBay

You can see here that there is a nice market for ties. The best part is they are not going away. They will be a fashion accessory for a while yet…..!

Here is a list of brands that sell well and for at least £8 and over, most of which I have personally sold myself too:

  • Hermes
  • Gieves & Hawkes
  • Thomas Pink
  • TM Lewin
  • Disney
  • Van Buck
  • Hugo Boss
  • Charles Trywhitt
  • Duchamp London
  • Paul Smith
  • Turnbull & Asser
  • Armani
  • William Powel
  • Gucci

Note: As with most things you buy to resell condition is everything. Make sure there are no stains or rips in the material. Always go for 100% silk and as a rule of thumb the more vibrant looking the quicker it will sell.

This is a very short list of some of the brands you should look out for. These are also “sensible” brands, meaning if you look in the tie racks, boxes or bins at your local charity shops then you WILL find them.

Hermes are considered the holy grail among tie sellers – be warned though there are a ton of fakes out there. A Hermes tie buyer will know the difference and your account is at risk if you sell fakes.

There are more expensive ties but they are very hard to find. The ones above are fairly common and still fetch a good price.

They are also a great product to sell for the novice eBay seller.

As proof that these brands sell here is a selection of my recent tie sales. I paid no more than £1 for each tie.

So, Where Can I Get Ties To Resell?

Pop into your local charity shop and you will find a rack (or a box) of ties somewhere in the shop.

Most charity shops I visit usually price their ties between 50p and £2.

As I said earlier, most will be garbage but every now and then you will find a good seller.

Snap up any you find that will sell. Use the list above for a start if you like! But once you have done it for a while you will soon get an eye for the good ones.

If you come across a brand that you are unsure of but the tie looks great then look it up. I do this all the time and often find new brands when I am out sourcing.

Other good areas to look are car boot sales, jumble sales and even eBay itself.

You can often find people selling bundles of ties for cheap or on auction. Ask for the brands if they have not identified them in the description. Also don’t be afraid to use the ‘Best Offer’ feature and go low if its there!

I have won several lots of ties with very low offers. Then split them down and sell them individually.

How Do I Sell Ties On eBay?

I am assuming you know the basics of eBay selling so I wont go into that. Ties are no different really. The basics are always the same with selling anything on eBay.

  • Good title (be a little descriptive if you can)
  • Good images
  • Good description

You can see from the images of my sold ties above that I try to include as much information as I can in the title.

Take this one for example:

“CHARLES TRYWHITT 100% Silk Purple Design Neck Tie VGC 3.5″ Width VGC Free Post!”

From this title the buyer gets the following information:

  • Brand
  • Material
  • Colour/Design
  • Width
  • Condition
  • Shipping Info

I do this with all my tie listings as a minimum.

Next up is the photos. I take all my pictures using my phone. The cameras on phones now are perfectly fine for eBay pictures.

But I also use a lightbox and a lamp to get the shots just right. These are not expensive. You can pick them up from eBay or Amazon.

Here is a link to a similar model to the one I am using on Amazon now.

It comes with 2 lamps, a lightbox and some different coloured back drops.

You can take a look here

Here is my setup.

My tie Photo Setup For eBay

This simple setup make the ties stand out and gives you the edge when pitched up against the amateur sellers who take no pride in their pictures. Mine are by no means the best but for £30 my setup works and I can get good enough pictures that show off the tie.

Take as many pictures as you can. Try to take pictures of any designer markings, the name and also if you can take a picture of the “100% Silk” label.

I tend to do one with the tie coiled up, another of a close up of the pattern.

The rest is up to you really. Look at good competitors for more examples.

Remember: Do not reinvent the wheel here, this is not tricky stuff.

The pricing is also up to you. I never go really top end, usually just below what is selling right now. I always go with Buy It Now but with a good quality designer brand you should also be ok to go with an auction (if you are feeling brave!)

You don’t really have to include too much more in the main description. I tend to start with the brand again, the size and design and finally a small piece on my guarantees.

Then save this as a template and list all your future ties using this template. This way you only have to change a few details here and there.

How Do I Ship The Ties?

A simple poly mailer will do the job. If like me you are planning on selling several ties a month then get yourself a batch of 9″ x 7″ poly mailers from eBay.

A neatly folded tie fits nicely into one of these and will ship as a large letter costing you just 75p to post 2nd class.

For a full list of postal rates you can visit the Royal Mail site here.

For all my ties in the £10 range this is all I do. Bit of a gamble I know as people could claim an “item not received” but the way I look at it is I have only paid £1 for the tie so I am willing to take that chance.

My customers have been happy so far.

For the higher more expensive sellers I will do a signed recorded delivery.

shipping ties sold on ebay

Its really that simple.

Conclusion And Wrap Up

I hope this post has maybe given you another item to look out for when out and about. Whilst I do not only go out for ties I always look for them when I am out sourcing. A extra 5 minutes in a shop does no harm and maybe next time you can come out with some more profit!

They tick all the boxes for me. They are super easy to ship, they take up no space at all (I have all mine in a large storage box), and they offer a really nice ROI (Return on investment)

Providing you stick to the right ones you really cant go wrong with ties.

Its all about quality brands, quality designs and as long as the price is right you will make a tidy profit.

Once you get to grips selling them you can do like I do and that is bundle up a few here and there and once you have say 10 ties list them all at once.

I can list about 10 ties in about an hour.

As a guide price of a minimum of £10 (£9.99) they will sell for around £100.

Not bad for an hours work.

Scale it however you want to! Good luck.

Let me know in the comments below if you sell ties? What is your best tie sale to date?

Earn Money As A Football Tipster With No Experience! (Risky!)

become a football tipster

Would you like to become a football tipster? Would you like to become THE expert in your field of football betting? Would you like to make money from these endeavours risk free?

Well if you answered yes to any of these then you are in the right place.

And, I did mean that in the last question. Risk free. That was not a mistake. You see in this report you are going to learn how to do just that and with a bit of time and effort on your part you can be earning a nice steady income with this method.

Now, the football tipsters I am talking about are the ones who work on FB.

All of these “tipsters” main income is usually from one thing. And that is NOT bets. Nope, their main income will have nothing to do with their betting slip.

Their main income will be with the betting companies that they are promoting. A common one used across FB is Bet365. You can see here that they will pay up to 30% per sign up.

Now the question is what does this have to do with FB and how do they get to earn money through commissions?

All these FB pages claim to have the inside knowledge and the advantage over traditional players. They claim to research all the games first and give you an edge. This is garbage, and again I will show you what they do in just a bit.

You will see from the many groups posting they ALWAYS include a “sign up here to play” link. This is a short affiliate link to Bet365 where anyone who signs up through this link will be credited as an affiliate of theirs.

The best part? They will earn 30% of whatever their newly signed affiliate LOSES for life. So let’s say they sign up and deposit £200 in their new account. When they lose that money (which they will eventually, gamblers always lose in the end) Mr affiliate will earn £40 of that  stake and 30% of their losses forever. That is a pretty good return.

You see even if your newly signed member goes on a little winning streak you are still fine. By Bet365’s own admission you can have a positive balance (meaning the person is winning more than they lose) but generally they will lose eventually. You always do.

negative balance

Ok so now we have established that they earn money through the Bet365 affiliate system what about the actual bets they are telling you to make?

Remember, they are claiming to be an expert in the field and give YOU the edge.

But it can only be an edge, no outcome of ANY football match can be predicted 100%.

They usually offer two types of bets throughout the day on the Facebook pages.

The accumulator and the in-play bet.

The Accumulator Bet

These are a series of bets usually more than 4 games resulting in a high win from a small stake. These are always a gamble and rarely come in. Nobody can really be an expert in these but some will come in now and again. It’s a lottery really. The accumulator gambler is the bookmakers dream punter.

This is what the tipsters do:

They will post the bet up on their Facebook page like this:

acca fb post

Look at the social proof from the ‘likes’. There is also ton of comments on each post making the posts go viral getting new members to sign up and like the page each day.

You will notice that the bet is a link. From this link you will be taken to a website where you will be faced with this:

acca web link

Quite intriguing? Of course, everyone is going to click on the link only then to be faced with this:

acca web link lock

You can see that the bet is blurred out and locked out. You will only get details of the accumulator once you sign up for a Bet365 account through the links. The nice 30% affiliate links.

Very clever.

The In-Play Bet

The real gold probably comes from the series of in-play bets that are selected. What is attempted here is to turn a small initial stake into a healthy large sum over a selection of bets. A popular one is the £25 into £1000 in-play bets.

These bets are VERY SAFE bets with low odds. The type of bets here are usually that of a team or either team scoring just one goal.

Here is an example, you can see the game has already started and it’s 0-0. The bet is for over 0.5 goals. This basically means ANY goal to be scored by any team. You can see by the expected returns from the bet (£73.18) that the odds would have been about 1.53 (decimal format).

example bet

Also of course there are the Bet365 affiliate links for any new members to sign up through. Also again see the number of ‘likes’ the post has furthering its reach across people’s Facebook newsfeeds.

As you can see the money can quickly accumulate in a nice healthy sum.

So the plan is to bet the winning amount each time on each new bet. Once you have a run of 10 or so bets you will be earning some good cash. It is a good system and a good method.

To be fair I have seen a couple of football tipsters hit this a few times.

But Do You Need To Be An Expert To Pick These Bets?

No. Not at all. In fact I put this to the test. On the weekend of Saturday the 13th February I managed to pick 7 in a row and turn my initial stake of £25 into £136.35.

Here are the exact bets that I placed, in every game I only need one goal for the bet to come in. For example if the bet says over 1.5 goals then it would have been 1-0 or 0-1 when I placed the bet.

Bet 1Sunderland v Man Utd over 1.5 goals in-play @ 17 minutes

£25 @ 1.11

WIN £27.75 on 39 minutes

Bet 2 – Hansa Rostock v VfR Aalen over 1.5 goals in-play @ 33 minutes

£27.75 @ 1.22

WIN £33.25 on 75 minutes

Bet 3 – Darmstadt v Bayer Leverkusen over 1.5 goals in-play @ 45 minutes

£33.25 @ 1.30

WIN £43.88 on 62 minutes

Bet 4 – Cologne v Eintracht Frankfurt over 3.5 goals in-play @ 61 minutes

£43.88 @ 1.61

WIN £70.64 on 78 minutes

Bet 5 – AC Milan v Genoa over 1.5 goals in-play @ 45 minutes

£70.64 @ 1.30

WIN £91.83 on 64 minutes

Bet 6 – Sevilla v Las Palmas over 0.5 goals in-play @ 45 minutes

£91.83 @ 1.16

WIN £106.52 on 69 minutes

Bet 7 – Austria Vienna v Rapid Vienna over 2.5 goals in-play @ 52 minutes

£106.52 @ 1.28

WIN £136.35 on 72 minutes

There you go. I turned £25 into £136.35 over just 7 bets. I could have continued on but I just wanted to prove that it is achievable and I am by no means a football tipster or expert.

I am also NOT a gambler. I like to use systems that can provide solid and safe income streams!

When the tipster gets a run of bets like this on the page everybody goes crazy. They all comment on the posts, tag their friends in and give it loads of ‘likes’

But here is the best part.

What happens if it goes wrong? What happens if one of the bets does not come in?

This happens all the time. No matter how good the odds are, there is always one bet that does not go the way the odds intended it too. It is a football match!

Well, when it goes wrong the tipster still makes money! Remember what I told you at the beginning about the commissions from Bet365?

When a person LOSES their stake the tipster will get 30% so it literally is win-win for him.

When a bet loses the tipster will just pick a new one and start the ball rolling again.

losing bet

As you can see in the image above bet 6 stopped the run to £1000 going. The tipster does not really care as this means for everyone who signed up through his link he would have made 30% of the losing stake on each person.

The tipster simply starts a new one. He also gets everyone buzzing by telling them to ‘like’ and ‘comment’ on the post.

And everyone goes crazy again.

I also said at the top of the post that you also never need to make a bet. I hope now you can see why this is true. The Tipster does not actually need to make these bets because he is guaranteed profit whatever the outcome. Even if the bet does come in, the bookies are banking on the fact that the gambler will eventually lose that money on other bets (or slots, poker, bingo, plus others….) so the Tipstar cannot fail.

Remember: the affiliate earnings are for the life of that individual.

Although I would expect that the tipsters do actually make some of the bets. But they are doing so without putting their hand in their own pocket.

Wrap Up & Conclusion

You can see from this break down this is a very lucrative model. Something that when done right can work.

The trick is to get a large following. This page I used in this example (although there are tons of pages doing this) has over 250,000 FB likes. That is a lot.

People will most likely check these pages too or they will even have them in their preferred following so they get shown first each time there is a new update.

In order to get really relevant ‘likes’ of this number to a FB page requires a lot of time and some investment. Though it can be done.

I have built numerous pages across numerous niches and got results very quickly and had strong engagement on the page. It can be done.

If you want to learn how to build a website you can check out my free course here.

Could you be the next tipster?

How about taking it on a new angle?

  • The Tennis Tipster
  • The Australian Rules Football Tipster
  • The American Football Tipster
  • The Rugby Tipster

As long as the bets are safe, by safe I would say under 1.5 (decimal odds) then generally as a rule you will hit more winners than losers. This is great for your following as they will think you are a hero.

But remember, you don’t care as you make 30% of of every bet that loses.

Good luck.

For the record: I DO NOT do this, I find it a tad unethical. However if you want to enter the world of online tipping – then good luck!!
